Professor Wong Ming-hung, Advisor (Environmental Science), and Dr Li Wai-chin, Associate Professor at the Department of Science and Environmental Studies, received a Second Class Award in Natural Science for their project on 'The Impact and Mechanism of Root Anatomy and Moisture Factors on the Accumulation of Heavy Metals in Rice' at the 2022 Guangdong Province Science and Technology Awards.

The study reveals the impact of heavy metal pollution in paddy fields on rice yield, as well as the crucial role of different varieties and environmental factors. The research has identified important patterns and mechanisms, and offers new insights for selecting low-accumulation varieties and controlling pollution.
